Abstract

Microwave induced solvent-free solid phase synthesis of 3,5-diaryl-6-carbethoxycyclohexenones has been achieved by the cyclocondensation of substituted chalcones (1) with ethyl acetoacetate (EAA) in the presence of basic alumina and piperidine under solvent free condition using domestic microwave oven has been described. The process has advantage over conventional methods such as shorter reaction time, higher yield and environmental acceptability. All the synthesized compounds have been screened for their antimicrobial activity.
